Scope overview
The Takapo River is an approx. 45km long braided river in the Mackenzie Basin that runs from Lake Takapo to Lake Benmore. The river has very high natural values and provides habitat for multiple rare and unique braided river and wetland species.
It is classified as Land of National Significance, is a Recommended Area of Protection (RAP-P15) and Site of Special Wildlife Significance (SSWI) and contains Wetlands of Ecological and Regional Importance (WERI). The river also has significant indigenous value. It was an ara tawhito (traditional travel route) used by hapu to access Te Manahuna (Mackenzie Basin) for seasonal mahinga kai (food-gathering).
Kainga mahinga kai (food-gathering places) were also located along the river. The river is also frequently used for recreation including hiking, fishing, hunting, camping and kayaking. One key threat to the Takapo River is the invasion exotic woody vegetation, which negatively impacts its cultural, ecological and recreational values, and compromises its flood capacity.
An area of dense exotic tree growth occurs immediately upstream of the confluence with the Maryburn Stream. This RFP relates to the purchase of services to remove exotic trees of various sizes from approx. 27.7 Ha of the Takapo River near the confluence with Maryburn Stream.
We are seeking a highly skilled and environmentally savvy Supplier who can offer an innovative and competitive solution to achieve our desired outcomes.
