Søndre Helgeland Miljøverk IKS (SHMIL) is an intermunicipal company owned by 11 municipalities in Helgeland in Nordland: Vefsn, Grane, Hattfjelldal, Brønnøy, Sømna, Vevelstad, Vega, Dønna, Herøy, Alstahaug and Leirfjord. The company operates the collection and treatment of waste from households and businesses. SHMIL shall establish new technical infrastructure with the accompanying buildings at Åremma.

The project shall facilitate efficient, safe and environmentally reliable treatment of waste and ensure the necessary capacity for future needs. The project shall support SHMIL ́s core activity and contribute to a more rational operation, at the same time taking into account climate, the environment and flexibility for future changes.
