Scope overview
The purpose of this Request for Proposal is to invite interested parties to submit a proposal for the provision of a Christchurch Cruise season impact assessment.
Through our work on destination management plans for Otautahi Christchurch Waitaha Canterbury and Te Pataka o Rakaihautu Banks Peninsula we have a vision to welcome manuhiri to come and learn about and explore our unique culture, history and geography in a way that delivers benefits for our taiao (environment), our people, and our visitors.
Our destination management plans and our citys economic ambition seek to move towards regeneration. By "regeneration", and "regenerative tourism", we are referencing the idea of leaving the place better than it is now. It means positively adding to the natural, social, cultural, and economic resources of a place.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, who created the nationwide 2019 Destination Management Guidelines, defines regenerative as leaving a community and environment better than it was before. It calls for a plan that helps re-establish systems that are healthy, thriving and self-healing and delivers more for New Zealanders intergenerational wellbeing than it takes away.
This research project will inform Christchurchs future decision-making around cruise, by supporting ChristchurchNZ to understand the value both positive and negative to the destination.
