Scope overview

The LSC research center participates in the international Hyper-Kamiokande project, a next-generation experiment studying neutrinos, proton decay, and fundamental particle physics. The detector will be built 620 meters underground in Kamioka, Japan, consisting of a large cylindrical tank filled with ultrapure water and equipped with thousands of photomultiplier tubes.

These PMTs operate under high vacuum conditions and face significant hydrostatic pressure, creating potential implosion risks if spontaneous failures occur.
