Travel locations-Beijing and project sites in China Description of the Assignment: The International Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist will lead the development of mandatory safeguards-related annexes for the project “Integrated Management of Permafrost Peatland in Northern China for Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Actions” related to the application of social and environmental safeguards to ensure they are in adherence to UNDP’s SES and specific requirements of the GEF.
The consultant is to conduct the design phase version of the Social and Environmental Screening Procedures (SESP), develop the Environment and Social Management Framework (ESMF) and a project specific Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) as well as the Ethnic Minority Peoples Plan (EMPP) and associated FPIC Modality, the Process Framework (PF) and the Livelihood Action Framework (LAF).
The consultant will advise and guide the project development team on the application of these standards during the project development phase as appropriate and ensure that SES principles are fully embedded in the project’s Gender Analysis and Action Plan, Comprehensive Stakeholder Engagement Plan, as well as other plans developed during the PPG phase.
S/he will work in close collaboration with the PPG team, in particular the PPG Team Leader, and the National Gender and Social Engagement Specialist. Period of assignment/services: 40 working days, expected from March 10, 2026 to June 30, 2027 Please be noted we are hiring an International expert, only applicants who are not of Chinese nationality will be accepted.
