Die Stadtbibliothek Karlsruhe hat einen Bestand von ca. 300.000 Medien und im Gesamtsystem eine jährliche Ausleihe von etwa 1.320.000 Medien.
Zur Stadtbibliothek gehören zwei zentral gelegene Bibliotheken in der Innenstadt (Zentrale im Neuen Ständehaus und Kinder- und Jugendbibliothek im Prinz-Max-Palais), fünf Zweigstellen in den Stadtteilen sowie eine Amerikanische Bibliothek mit ausschließlich englischsprachigen Medien. Abgelegene Stadtteile werden durch einen Medienbus bedient.
Die Stadtbibliothek Karlsruhe setzt in allen Standorten bereits die RFID-Technik an den Servicetheken ein. Zusätzlich sind systemweit Selbstverbuchungsterminals zur Ausleihe von Medien vorhanden und in der Zentrale in Neuen Ständehaus ergänzt eine Außen- / Innenrückgabe mit 9-fach Sortierung das Angebot. Alle Standorte verfügen über RFID-Sicherheitsgates.
Es werden zur Neuausstattung Selbstverbuchungsterminals (SVB-Terminal) zur Medienausleihe / -rückgabe und Gates zur Diebstahlsicherung (Sicherungsgates) geliefert. Die Sicherungsgates zur Diebstahlsicherung haben je nach Standort eine abweichende Konfiguration. Alle genannten Geräte nutzen die RFID-Technik (Betriebsfrequenz 13,56 MHz).
