Rakennuttamisen tehtävät perustuvat lähtökohtaisesti rakennushankeen johtamisen ja rakennuttamisen tehtäväluetteloon (HJR18). Tehtävien laajuus voi vaihdella hankkeittain.
Pienemmät, arviolta alle 15.000 euron hankinnat hankintayksikkö voi tilata suoraan soveltuvammaksi katsomaltaan kumppanilta. Arviolta yli 15.000 euron työt minikilpailutetaan valittujen kumppaneiden kesken. Kohteina ovat Tampereen seurakuntayhtymän tai muiden seurakuntien omistamat kiinteistöt tai alueet. Tampereen seurakuntayhtymällä ja muilla seurakunnilla on mm.
kirkkoja, seurakuntatiloja, pappiloita, kappeleita, hautausmaita, leirikeskuksia sekä erilaisia maa-alueita. Lisäksi seurakuntayhtymä tai muut seurakunnat omistavat asuntoja, osakehuoneistoja sekä liiketiloja.
