Die Dachabdichtung des Hauptdaches des Industriegebäudes Schwiesaustraße 6 in Magdeburg hat seine Nutzungsdauer überschritten und bedarf einer grundsätzlichen Instandsetzung. Das Areal um das Gebäude zwischen Wasserkunststraße, Nachtweide, Schöppensteg und Schrote weist noch heute einen extrem hohen Grad an Flächenversiegelung auf.
In diesem Bereich der Neuen Neustadt existieren vergleichsweise sehr wenige entsiegelte Grünflächen und das Gebiet ist nicht resilient gegenüber Umweltbelastungen. Das geplante Gründach greift daher mehrere Maßnahmen des Gebäudegrünkonzepts der Landeshauptstadt Magdeburg auf.
Es kann damit zu einer erheblichen Verbesserung des Mikroklimas beitragen und einen Schutz der infrastrukturellen Einrichtungen bei Starkregenereignissen darstellen. Insgesamt werden rund 3.400 m² Dachfläche saniert und ca. 3.000 m² der Dachfläche mit einem extensiven Gründach ausgestattet. Nicht inbegriffen ist die Überdachung der Fahrzeughalle (Innenhof).
