Scope overview
The Democratic Republic of Congo, despite its vast natural resources, remains one of the poorest and most unstable countries, particularly in the East where numerous armed groups operate. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has been active in the DRC since the 1990s, particularly in the field of vocational training. The current vocational training programme, PROMOST , will run until March 2026.
In its new 2026–2029 country programme, the SDC focuses on strengthening the economic resilience of vulnerable groups such as youth, women and people displaced by conflict. The new project “Ufundi” aims to improve the professional skills of vulnerable young people in North and South Kivu while promoting entrepreneurship and access to sustainable income.
Aligned with Congolese and Swiss development strategies, the project runs from 2026 to 2030.
