Scope overview

The Wakarara Road Bridge is located approximately 750 metres east of Wakarara Road & North Block Road intersection. In addition to others in the area this bridge provides an important connection for the communities of Makaroro and Wakarara, therefore this rebuild is one of Council�s highest priorities to ensure connectivity with their local communities.

On 14th February 2023, Cyclone Gabrielle caused an underslip due to uncontrolled, fast-flowing overland stormwater scouring away the bridge approach embankment's outer edge, in conjunction with the effects of ground saturation. The underslip has caused an abutment approach failure and damaged the abutment wing wall.

A timber retaining wall was also present along the failed portion of the bridge approach prior to the failure. The scope of this project is to build a new retaining structure along the failed portion of approach to Wakarara Bridge
